Las Dos | The Two is an interpretation of the balancing act for claiming/re-claiming our identities. Often there’s a push & pull between being “American enough” or “Latin enough“ based on perceptions of fashion, language, physical features, or even where one lives. As part of the Puerto Rican diaspora, there’s continuous navigation of belonging while co-existing with the United States’ colonial impact. Through this self-portrait, I explore this dual existence on how we navigate the patriotism of where one’s born versus the pride of where one comes from.
